AIEEE 2008 Cutoff

The AIEEE 2008 Paper was held all across the country today. The paper had equal distribution of questions and marks in each subject. The paper had 35 questions in all three subjects and each question carried 3 marks for correct answer and -1 mark for incorrect answer. The Maths section had assertion and reasoning type questions while the Physics section had a passage. I have gone through the paper and have made the following analysis :
- The pattern change has made the paper a bit difficult
- No. of questions reduced to help students score more
- Overall difficulty level increased
- Physics was the toughest paper out of the three

I have gone over the paper thoroughly and have taken feedback from many students who appeared for AIEEE 2008 and have compiled the list of the rank you can expect on the marks you are expecting in AIEEE 2008.
Actual AIEEE 2007 ranks according to marks obtained in AIEEE 2007:
The comments are now getting repeated and it is not humanly possible to reply to all the comments. So I will answer the most general questions here itself.
- You can know your expected rank by looking at the table for expected AIEEE 2008 ranks posted by me above.
- Cutoff for AIEEE 2008 central counseling is expected to be about 80-85 marks if the number of seats are increased due to OBC quota else it will be about 95-100 marks
- Your admission to NITs and some of other institutes depends on the state you belong to as there are fixed number of seats allocated per state in each NIT.
- Take a look at this link to find out which institute you can get at your rank by searching for your state code and the category you belong to.
- Below you can find the cutoffs to some of the private institutes that take admission separately :
Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology : Around 8,000-9,000 AIR.
Jaypee Institute Of Information Technology, Noida :
CSE – About 16-17,000 , ECE- About 28,000, IT – About 30,000
Thapar University :
Punjab Quota : CSE – 9,000 , ECE – 7,500 , Mechanical – 13,000, ICE – 15000 , EEE – 17,500 , Civil – 23,000 , Chemical – 24,000 , BioTech – 21,000
Outside Punjab Quota : CSE – 6,500 , ECE – 6,200 , Mechanical – 8,700, ICE – 7,800 , EEE – 8,500 , Civil – 13,000 , Chemical – 11,000 , BioTech – 13,000

IIIT Hyderabad : About 2-2,500

If last year 211 marks which is almost 60% got 10k is the same rank for 175 which is 55% justified because the paper was comparitively too tough and because some questions were so lenghy even cutting the no. of questions shouldn’t matter?

Top 10 – 300 marks
10000 rank – 175 marks
30000 rank – 140 marks
50000 rank – 100 marks

AIEEE 2008 paper was tougher,few questions were lengthier in comparison to 2007; also pattern was little bit changed one. Keeping these things and the aspirants view in mind it appears that cutoff’s for the different ranges of the ranks will go down surely.
In my opinion nad analysis 200-220 maks are well enough to get rank above 5000. I would really appreciate if someone like to comment over this ‘post’. At, last thanks to Ankur for what he is doing in this regard. One more thing to the aspirants, plz, take all these comments as ones point of view and try to get a feel of general perception and not like a perfect information or news.

the solutions by narayana, prerna, career point & time are diffferent and having wide variation.(indicates difficulty of paper when experts too differ on answers)
This time paper out of 315 & not 360.
I see a significant fall in cut offs.(maybe 55%)172-175 for 10K.Maybe even lesser.
Only time will tell.which is the best solution papper.

in NCERT textbook (chemistry part 2 page 333) it is written that phenol on rxn with conc. H2SO4 and then with conc HNO3 gives 2,4,6,trinitrophenol which was not in option while the institutes are saying its o-nitrophenol .on whom should we rely?????????? please help

For the incorrect questions, I think that those questions are removed and the total marks of the paper is reduced.
It is difficult to post state ranks for individual states.
Also I will post the cutoffs to private colleges like Thapar,Jaypee etc. as requested by quite a few of you tomorrow.
Also FIITJEE and Career Launcher Solutions are the most reliable available so check your score using that.

the 2007 paper was extremely easy………it looks like a joke in front of today’s paper
the no. of questions today were less but with the calculation and thinking skills involved,we can consider today’s and the 2007 paper of the same lengh
considering the difficulty level today’s paper was a lot more tougher than 2007
the official rank 10000 went at 211 marks which is about 58%
So even considering a rise in the intellectual level of students u have predicted a 10000 rank at 175 marks which is 55%
even knowing the accuracy of your predictions just a 3% decrease in the same rank seems a little wrong doesn’t it

I believe that the marks-wise rank table that you have provided is a bit too soaring high..! Comparing the level, the pattern and the toughness of the paper as compared to last year’s, there is a possiblity of -15 to -20 in all marks range that you have provided. Thank you for putting up the cutoff. also since the exam was tougher this year the cutoff may fall by 20- 30 marks in each category(i think). i think the paper was 25% tougher than the one last year.

obviously this year’s aieee question was difficult ascompared to the previous year’s despit having less questions…..in my opinion 150 can have rank between 15000-17000…most questions were tricky and not like those formula based questins that were in previous year… i think it would be toughest exam of aieee…i have solved only 142 as compared to iit 209 marks..

Also BESU has become a central university this year but allowed by HRD ministry to take in thru the State JEE for the last time in 2008. From 2009 it will be only thru AIEEE. i wud jst like to say that u hav predicted the cutoffs on the upper side,i went thru the paper n as a gen student i concluded that the cutoffs for this yr might be 4-5% lower than last yr….student having 10k rank last year had 58% mrx….take it to be 53 to 54%,so it will lie around 168,just for 10000 rank..n for last eligible rank it might be around 90..but i must say predicting rank is one of the most difficult tasks….u need so many parameters for it….keep guiding ppl coz they are become more n more aware n techie….im awestruck to see so many ppl here,so early….india shining!!

i am from u.p. getting 120-125 do i get an nit and if i dont get an nit do i stand chance for daiict , jp or thapar or laxmi mittal’s college, well for the case of nit U.P. also has an iiit in allahabad , can i get through it any branch will do ………
and ya i had made a mistake in marking the answers of 2 questions in the answer sheet then after asking the invigilator i crossed the wrong answer and then circled the right answer is it possible that i do get marks on those particular questions
and i m not a dropper i m currently in uptechnical university first year , and have got II semester exams coming should i start preparing for them or should sit relaxed thinking of admission to a better college ( maybe an nit any branch will do ) …. advise me

I am expecting 168(acc to TIME, FIITJEE, BRILLIANT) and 172(acc to CAREER POINT) in AIEEE 2008. My state code of eligibility is Karnataka. Will I get CS / ECE / IT in NIT Suratkal, Trichy or Calicut. What about SASTRA, Thanjavur?
I know predicting state ranks is difficult, but you predict my AIR to be around 10,000 to 11,000, going by this and the 2006 rank list my state rank should be around 160 – 165. Is it good enough to get into the aforementioned branches and colleges?
Can you also say, how much difference one mark can make?

I am getting 210 in AIEEE according to FIITJEE solutions. My state code of eliigibility is Delhi.
What could be my all india rank and state rank.

I am also scoring about 220 in IIT JEE . What is your view? Is BHU or ISM dhanbad better than the nits?
Also isnt it that it is unfair for those with a Delhi quota because Delhi doesn’t has any home college to be admitted through AIEEE and we are getting a very few seats in the rest of the colleges

Solutions which come out late such as brilliant-tutorials and FIITJEE etc. are quite correct.

No, you will not get a negative marks ad the question will get canceled resulting in zero marks to each student for that.

At 85 marks, you might just make it to counseling, so you can hardly expect to get anything through central counseling.

There are many private colleges like Thapar, Jaypee which have management seats.
You need to find private colleges in your state and check for management seats in them.
In many cases management seats are named as NRI seats which are not purely based on donation but also have certain eligibility criteria.

I would suggest all of you getting less than 4000-5000 ranks to take anything you get in IIT unless you are scoring exceptionally well in
AIEEE and getting a great college like NSIT/DCE,IIIT etc. and you don’t want to compromise on branch.

Yes you need to fill forms separately for Thapar,PEC,DA-IICT,Jaypee to be eligible for counseling which is held independently by these colleges but is based on AIEEE ranks.

The cutoffs predicted by you are pretty close to that I am predicting.No one can be bang on target and each has different opinions.
I have kept various parameters on mind before coming out with the expected ranks.

No I do not think pattern change will affect much as number questions also reduced significantly.
As the OMR sheets are evaluated using machines they would not be able to pick out your correct answer leading to correct marks.

Tough to compare BITS Pilani and best NITs. Both of them have excellent reputation as well as placements.
It boils down to see what branch you are getting in either of them and also other parameters such as how far are they from your native place etc.
In short, I would place them at same level.

1 mark can make a difference from few hundred ranks to few thousand ranks!! It depends how much marks you are scoring.

Again tough to view BHU and ISM when compared to NITs. If you are getting a good branch in BHU and ISM then it makes no sense to go for NITs. But if you are getting one of the last branches comapred to best branches in top NITs then you will have to make the call yourself. I would still choose BHU and ISM though

The Institute of Petroleum technology, Gandhinagar is a good college and worth taking if you are not concerned about the branch you will have to study there.

244 is a great score to take into NSIT/IIITs which are THE best colleges through AIEEE. If you are determined to crack into IITs only then only think about dropping. IIITs are also great institutions to study in.

my ward wrote the exam from one of the mumbai centre.
i was aghast at the manner the aieee exam was conducted by the schools
there were 1000 students in a school centre
in one class around 48 students were there
2 students sat with a common table. the way they were seated there was very little distance between them. many candidates have misued this by simply seeing what the other student is doing and simply copying the answeres (this happenned in my wards’s case who did well in the exams) since he had come with a pre plan that he will not do anything but simply copy whatever the answer the other person does as he is not at all prepared.
this is inspite of the fact that the codes of paper is different and even the answer choices in each code is different. but this did not make any difference since the copying candidate was able to see the question and refer to his question book let and answer the same what the other person has marked.
this is true especially in bombay centres ( i hear this from many parents)
is this the way the school authorities conduct exams and this puts off the good students who have toiled for 2 years but the other person does not toil at all but benefits immensely just because the seating arrangement is faulty.
i hope aieee learns and rectified the seating pattern in future

i believe the cutoffs posted here are a rough approximation of the actual cutoffs. i do not doubt the accuracy but am eager to know whether the deviation from the listed cutoffs is expected to be positive or negative. Sir Ankur, do you expect the cutoffs to be slightly lower than or higher than the listed cutoffs now that you have a fairer idea of the general performance than on the day of the examination itself. i am interested to know because i am expecting a score in the vicinity of 200, 5 to 6 lower actually.

I did not understand the cutoff, 2007 marks were out of 360 and 2008 are out of 315(I presume). How come absolute marks be taken as cutoff in 2008 vis-a-vis 2007. Take example for 2007 rank of 100 (it was at 315/360 i.e. 87.5%) and this time you are predicting 500 rank at 87.3% e.i. 275/315). How it is possible??
This is ins spite of general view that 2008 paper was harder than 2007. Am I weak in maths or my logic is wrong???
Can somebody enlighten me please??

i hv seen many ppl tricking others by telling false marks to everybody….i feel very bad abt them it wud be gr8 if u cn do sumthing abt them too…..
and of my marks n harwork…
i got abt 92 marks….yea itz low….i was suppressed under xam stress n was very depressen in consequent 2 dayz……i knw ma level is above dis…wot shud i do knw….there r many options….first one is dropping a year 4 which i knw i cant handle itz heeeeeat….second get into any colledge n do sum hard work n leave everything on god….or take bitsat n ip very seriously…..

hi sir,after seeing all your answers given to the peaple i felt great about u sir.sir i too have a doubt in aieee paper i.e,can u say me what are the minimum marks to pass in in each paper?i have a doubt that if we got below 40 marks in one paper can we get the rank?sir i hope that you will say me answers to all my questions.plz reply sir and i forgot to mention my details i wrote exam in hyderabad and the total questions in my aieee paper are 105.each paper contains 35 questions each.i hope u will give me solution sir for my questions.
