AIEEE 2009 Cutoff
The AIEEE 2009 paper was held all across the country on 26th April 2009. All the details regarding the paper along with the expected AIEEE 2009 cutoff will be posted right here after the exam. If you want to go through previous year opening and closing ranks for AIEEE, visit the official site here.
Initial reactions from students indicate that there was a major change in the pattern of the paper taking them by surprise. Also Maths was the toughest according to many. Check out the comments!
The total marks of the AIEEE 2009 paper were 432. Each section had 30 questions with 90 in total. There were 6 questions of 8 marks each and 24 questions of 4 marks each. The 4 mark questions had -1 mark for incorrect answer while the 8 mark questions had -2 marks for incorrect answer.

The final cutoff has been uploaded after some major changes, the first one was too liberal as I soon figured out after posting it. This should be closer to the actual ranks one can expect in AIEEE 2009.

Definately tougher… 15 questions less and still it was race against time.. so yeah, toughness level was up.
And questions worth 8 marks! i didnt understand the idea behind this, i felt no difference between 8 markers and 4 markers in physics and chem…
Maths was not so doable… So i think, maths will decide the cutoff… and people getting major marks through 8 markers will be lucky.

My paper was miserable(as I didn’t touch the extra topics in the syllabus) but I think due to the tremendous competition,cut-offs cud b high & may be many students will score highly

The question paper was quiet tough! chemistry was easy! physics was ok! Maths was tough! i agree with Arpit that maths will be the decider!

I think those peolple are seriously nuts who say maths was easier than chemistry. I don’t intend to rebuke them but why not wait till the solutions are out.

Physics and Chem were much better… Cant wait to see the key… ‘m dying of tension…And there wasnt much diff. b/w the 8 markers and the 4 markers…

g/9 question was not incorrect, answer was 2R, try using g=GM^2/R
and then you’ll get height as 3R. 3R-R=2R…. QED

chemistry was really very very easy , actually , the toughness of the paper depends upon one`s prepration . . . one who will prepare better , will score better . . . 24 ques. of chem were ditto from pradeep`s objective . . . maths and physics were also fine , but all what matters is one`s prepration . . . . so , dnt just spread rumors just like anything . . . m waitin 4 da answeres . . i hope they`l be available by today !!

To know what institutes you can get, check out the official AIEEE website as it has opening and closing ranks for all institutes that participated in central counseling last year, check here.
Cutoff ranks to various private institutes that held separate counseling will be posted by tomorrow or day after.

This is too optimistic a list.If your list is to go by then i who had about 45 mins for maths and is scoring only a 66 in maths is going to have a under 1000 rank.(whereas i can hope for about 4000 rank in IIT)
Further according to friends of mine,a few of them are getting above 345-350 (they are not boasting) which means a top 50 kinda rank when i know they are good but to get a under 100 rank u need to be kinda genious.
Sorry but your list needs to shifted upwards bigtime.

The question of comparing ionic sizes of Na+,Mg2+,Li+,Be2+ had all the options incorrect(at least in set C) as the answer is
Na+(95 pm)>Mg2+(65 pm)>Li+(60 pm)>Be2+(39 pm)
I took this data from Pradeep’s Chemistry book of class 11 pg.3/24.I have verified it from Internet as well as other books.
So what do you reckon will aieee simply ignore this or grant marks to everyone who has attempyed the question.

Ankur, I think that’s a bit over-the-top. Earlier the table was too liberal and now I believe it is too miserly.
I have seen this year’s paper: the negatives are higher, and each section is tougher compared to the last (Imagine if one guy gets one 8 mark question wrongly marked – that’s a whopping minus ten!)
I think the top 10,000 ranks could go upto 205-210 marks.

I think the cut off marks will be not as predicted because the aieee 2009 paper was based on a new pattern(having 4 mks. & 8 mks. qs.) and the paper seemed to be marginally diffcult (90 qs. instead of 105 qs last year).The no. of students has also increased dastically to almost 10,00,000 students which for sure will lower the heat of cut off marks.I Hope to see cut off results not on merer predictions but based on the student’s views regarding the paper.

I am getting 232 acc to fiitjee solution. They predicted a rank between 10000-20000. I am absolutely heartbroken.
I am expecting 180 in IIT. I am interested in architecture from roorkee so even if I get a rank of 6500-7500 it would be ok. But there is always a chance of losing 10 marks because of wrong solutions (fiitjee).
I was thinking of not appearing for ComedK ad Manipal (I have filled their form). Will it be a wise decision after such a bad performance?

aieee was generally based on the speed of solving questions and this was where the avgerage students could compete with the above average students(ones who qualify for iit) until this year when cbse gave a very tough maths paper and most of the students lost that edge over the iitians. Just hope the the students qualifying for iit and grtting rank in between 2000-5000 don’t take admission in NIT’s And III’s.

Negative marking has gone down from 33% to 25% per question. Also look at this way, it one gets a 8 mark question right, he gets twice the marks as compared to other questions and the 8 mark question were not much tougher than the 4 mark ones.

Hi evrybdy…I am presently in NIT Srinagar got admission through AIEEE-2008.My AIR was 36224 and SR(J&K)-113.I think my sr was pretty good but state quota was abolished.It turned my life around.I was also having OBC Quota.But i was getting same with OP as well as with OBC category.So i decided to go with OP category.Later when 2nd counselling held,i came to know that with this AIR and OBC category i would have got a pretty good NIT.It is not that this NIT is not good but i cant live here due to that mistake.So my friends don’t hurry to get NIT in 1st counselling wait for 2nd and furthur counsellings as many seats get vacant. Now Ankur,is there any provision to migrate from this NIT to the other?

Could you assess what are my chances in NITs ?
What will be the difference in this Over-all and Category Ranks? The seats in open category will be as per Over-all rank or Category Rank. I belong to Open Category.
My Delhi state Overall is 3891 and Category is 3455 rank.
Can I use this for any institution?

During AIEEE 2008 Round 1 of counselling:
50% seats as per state quota of home state
50% seats as per all india rank
were allotted. That’s why the opening and closing ranks show “HS”=home state and “AI”= all india.
Round 2 form 3 counselling were held solely on the basis of AIR. But the next round gave preference to UTs and States without an NIT.
However, AIEEE 2007 Round 1 of counselling:
50% seats as per state quota of home state
50% seats as per state rank of states outside the home state
were allotted. Hence the opening and closing ranks show initials of the state of eligibility of students and while for MP it closes at 17k, for GJit closes at 53k[actual stats NIT Nagpur].
All subsequent rounds followed the above approach.
So what i want to ask is.. aieee 2009 counsellign procedure, i more similar to 2008 or 2007? the line that confused me, in the application brochure it is written:
“Incase the new NITs are not established before the start of admission based on AIEEE 2009, seats will be made available for students of such states/UTs whihc do nto have any NIT so as to keep the number the number of seats for such States/UTs at the level of 2007, after making due adjustment to number of seats filled by eligible candidates of these state/UTs”
is that a indirect way of saying we’re back to 2007? or does it only point to the round where such states/Uts will be given preference. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi ankur,
i’ve scored 231 in aieee which is about 30 marks short of what i was expecting.The solutions were misleading i guess.Anyways, even though my AIR is 9381,I’ve got a state rank of 187 in the general quota which is kinda ok.So, i was thinking as Nit trichy is generally acknowledged to be the best nit, i’d join whatever course i get, even something like prod engg or instr.What say u? And is there some procedure called sliding to change ur course after joining.If so what is this 1st sliding , 2nd sliding etc.And can i slide my way into any course from any other course. kindly elucidate.I also wanted to know how many seats are there in NitT and how many for Mech.please let me know asap.

hey ankur, i would want you to throw light on the prospects of engg in information technology in the current recession and no-outsourcing scenario. i wish to pursue engg in cse or information tech. as the next option(if i get a better college in IT than in CSE). but is the situation all that bad for studying IT(or even CSE for that matter) ?

My query is why has the CCB issued ranks under overall and category separately this year confusing all the students and parents alike? Will the other category people with merit will be considered under Open category or they will be considered under their respective quota only? Can You clarify?

The data given in the ccb website gives the opening and closing ranks of each stream after all the iterations or fourth counselling as they call it. You can check from each of this college as to which branch or college that you are likely to get. All the best

This is the fourth time I am posting a question and half the time I find that My questions vanish.
My query is why have the ccb given two ranks this time. One overall and one category. The same for state rank too! Which will they consider while allotting seats? Will they consider the category rank or the overall rank. If you kindly explain I will be able to decide what stream is my son likely to get in any of the NIT’s.
Hope You answer this before the counselling starts!!!!!!!!

Ive got AIR 11506 in AIEEE 09. I’m from TN and my state rank is 251.I want to know how much one can depend on second and later phases of counselling.For instance,i dont want metallurgy at Nit Trichy but i get only it in the first phase.Can i trust that there will be vacancies after the first phase and wait for an upgrade or should i start looking for other colleges?Also, which course do u think is better at nit Trichy,chemical or production?Thanks in advance.

Sorry I made a mistake. The data of opening and closing ranks as given in ccb website is not the final list. For example, the opening and closing ranks for last year as given in NIT Trichy website is totally different from that of the ccb website. So obviously the one given in ccb website is not the final list. Hope Ankur gets the time to clarify and enlightens us. soon

In IP, my rank is 1905, outside delhi(gen). What are the chances of IGIT?

pls provide the details of cut off ranks (opening and closing rank )of AIEEE 2009 all india basis. it will be better if you have table formed for various branch , corresponding to each institute.
