Restricting cricketers endorsements:The correct solution?

There has been a lot of hue and cry by the cricketers and the big corporates as well over this debate which sparked up when BCCI in its recent meeting decided that a player be not allowed to endorse more than 3 products and also have a copy of his contracts submitted to BCCI.

Now this has hurt the sentiments of most of the players and also put the corporate houses on the back foot considering that they might have enough options while choosing a player for their product as he might have already been hired by some other company.

Recently Dravid, the captain of the Indian Cricket Team decided to write to the BCCI regarding this matter asking it to be discussed with the players before implementing it.The BCCI has now come under pressure from players and corporates with both demanding that this restriction be taken back as this doesnot affect the performance at all.

I am in unanimous favor that this will do no good as a player gets endorsements based on his performance and he spends only a few days shooting for the commercials thus not affecting his performance at all.The negative aspect of this is that a senior player like  Sachin Tendulkar  gets endorsements in his lean period too.But I strongly believe that this has no affect on his performance as he tries to give his 100% when out on his field.

I have an alternate solution to this problem which is a combination of both restriction as well as liberty.I suggest that the players be allowed to endorse products and after every six months their performance be reviewed and if it is not at par then a restriction should be put to limit the number of endorsements which should be reviewed after six months. This method too has its downsides but BCCI can do some fine tuning to it to make it a viable option.

The next few days will decide the fate of this issue with it being inclined in the favor oh the players at the moment.

Talking about the other changes that BCCI has decided to bring into Indian Cricket especially at the domestic level seem pretty good and if implemented for a long time say a period of 10 years, can do a lot of good to Indian Cricket. The World Cup Debacle has atleast brought into limelight some key issues that Indian Cricket is facing  and the steps taken are definitely a major step towards improvement.Time will only be the acid test that will decide the success.
