IIT JEE 2009 Cutoff
IIT JEE 2009 exam held all across India today was given by lakhs of students. There have been mixed reports from students regarding the paper while some have called it tougher and lengthier than last year paper, the others have found it easy. Maths was certainly the toughest part and everyone agrees on that.
While last year’s cutoff for general category was 180 marks (AIR 6773), this time it would almost remain same as paper was bit easier and seats are also being increased. You can check out the IIT JEE 2009 Solutions from various institutes across India. The expected cutoff for IIT JEE 2009 should be around 175. The final expected cutoff for IIT JEE 2009 is now published below. Check your expected ranks from the table below.

Total Seats this year : 8000 ( General category)
I am not touching upon the cutoff for Extended Merit List which would obviously be greater than 10,000. Please DO NOT ask what rank you can expect for given marks as the table has been published for that specific purpose only. Other queries are definitely welcome and I would try to answer as many as possible.
Opening and Closing ranks for all branches in various IITs available here. To know branch codes ” Just take the Information Brochure for IIT JEE 2009, also available here. Count from the beginning. You will get the code. For example Computer Science counts 10 and if you want it in Madras the code is M10. Thats it! ” (Taken from comment by A.Guru.Prakash(245).

Your analysis of the cut off score is excellent.
Have you ever worked out a similar analysis for the trend in IIT and branch selections??

Given the ongoing recession and slump in IT sector, will there be a high demand for Computer science – as was the case in 2006/2007 ?

I am getting a total of 235 (FIITJEE solutions). I have performed poorly in Chemistry, scoring just 35. Will I be able to clear the MQMR in Chemistry? According to a TOI report, last year’s MQMR in Chemistry would have been 19. Considering that approx 60k more students appeared this year…should I be worried? Plz do reply sir….I meant should I be worried about clearing the cut off? Also, all Chemistry champions from my batch have given an average performance- the highest being 72. All of them found the Chemistry part tough. But the comments here tell a different story, it seems.

well i thnk d cut-off has gt to go lower…. JEE-2008 was easier…plus JEE-2009 had negative marking in virtually all questions…. Physics matrix were lengthy…. aggregate cot off expected to be 160-165!!

Hey Ankur, I’m getting 216 as total marks but I committed some blunders and getting only 26 in Maths. Is there any chance that the MQMR system they’re following this year will take the individual cutoff for Maths to 26 or above? I’m getting really tensed about it. Please help!
