IIT JEE 2009 Cutoff

IIT JEE 2009 exam held all across India today was given by lakhs of students. There have been mixed reports from students regarding the paper while some have called it tougher and lengthier than last year paper, the others have found it easy. Maths was certainly the toughest part and everyone agrees on that.

While last year’s cutoff for general category was 180 marks (AIR 6773), this time it would almost remain same as paper was bit easier and seats are also being increased. You can check out the IIT JEE 2009 Solutions from various institutes across India. The expected cutoff for IIT JEE 2009 should be around 175. The final expected cutoff for IIT JEE 2009 is now published below. Check your expected ranks from the table below.

Total Seats this year : 8000 ( General category)

I am not touching upon the cutoff for Extended Merit List which would obviously be greater than 10,000. Please DO NOT ask what rank you can expect for given marks as the table has been published for that specific purpose only. Other queries are definitely welcome and I would try to answer as many as possible.

Opening and Closing ranks for all branches in various IITs available here. To know branch codes ” Just take the Information Brochure for IIT JEE 2009, also available here. Count from the beginning. You will get the code. For example Computer Science counts 10 and if you want it in Madras the code is M10. Thats it! ” (Taken from comment by A.Guru.Prakash(245).

CAT 2008 Solutions

The CAT 2008 exam was held all across the country today. You can get CAT 2008 Solutions, answer key, detailed analysis right here on a single page. Check them out below.

The first impressions from Career Launcher are out :

Overall, the CAT’08 paper was of a moderate difficulty level. The paper was more balanced than previous years, primarily because of more choices in the English section. There have been an increase in the total number of questions – from 75 to 90, with English section accounting for 40 questions (an increase of 15 from last year) and Quant and DI having 25 questions each.

The Quant section was less difficult than last two years, though not in an absolute sense.

DI, however, proved to be a tougher nut to crack this time around.

The English section, with more choices, was easier to handle.

Expected cut-offs:

Quant: 30-32
VA: 46-48
DI: 28-30

Overall: 125+

First impression from T.I.M.E :

  • QA was similar to CAT07 but of a higher difficulty level. This section had fewer questions on Arithmetic. Cutoff -> 18 ± 2
  • L & DI was of a similar level of difficulty as CAT07. This was a classical DI paper with sets on DI as well as Logic puzzles. Cutoff-> 32 ± 2
  • Verbal was less subjective than last year. Level of vocabulary was higher. Cutoff-> 42 ± 2
  • Overall cutoff – 125 ± 3
